Delayed?

The BBC just reported that the results of the Zimbabwe election have been delayed.

I don't know what the ballot looked like, but unless Tsvangirai, who recently stated that he wouldn't contest the election because he was sick of seeing his supporters being attacked and killed by Mugabe's men, was still on the ballot, then we see that Mugabe lost to a guy who didn't want to contest the election.

Or more people voted for a "someone else" option.

Or not enough people voted for Mugabe.

Either way, Zanu-PF are rigging an election that they were unopposed in.

How sad is that?

More (Non-)Surprises From Zimbabwe

Morgan Tsvangirai has been arrested.

Well this does not seem surprising in any way. Zanu-PF want to keep power, and they are doing everything they can to ensure that the MDC don't get their hands on it.

But I guess Mugabe managed to find the Z$290 343 566 175 (US$500) to use the "arrest" edict (yes, I've been playing Tropico).

But I wonder what the Zimbabwe government will claim? I guess it would have something to do with the West supporting Tsvangirai to "destabilise" Zimbabwe.

Either way it is just more evidence that supports the claim that Mugabe and Zanu-PF are trying to rig the election (as if that were a surprise...).

Hopefully more then enough people will vote for Tsvangirai for him to win the election. What's the bet that if that happens something will happen that allows Mugabe to rule anyway?

Losing Power

Things aren't going well in Zimbabwe it seems.

The BBC reported that the current government has kicked out Care International, an aid organisation for supposedly handing out political pamphlets and denying aid to non-MDC supporters.

Well, that certainly doesn't sound paranoid does it?

I think the government wants people to get some 500 000 people angry at the MDC for "cutting off their aid" and vote for the government. I really hope that it goes the other way.

But I think what we see here is a perfect example of the paranoia that a group of people find when they become used to holding power. They are doing everything they can to ensure that they can still pull the strings by keeping Mugabe in power, even though they don't have the house.

I hope that at the end of June all this manipulation will be found to have been useless as they lose anyway.

Zimbabwe Elections

I'm certain that we have all heard something about Zimbabwe recently. The recent elections have no official results and people are suspecting Zanu-PF (Mugabe's party) of fishy things.

The BBC has reported that the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) is challenging a recount order by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Now the recount seems a bit funny doesn't it?

Zanu-PF loses the lower house and the ZEC decides to be elusive with the results and now ask for this recount.

It isn't really fair to say "They are rigging the vote", I'll wait until the recount shows that the MDC doesn't have control of the house for that.

Until that time I'll just assume that they are, because the ZEC is acting strange.

However if there is one thing that I understand, it is that until Mugabe decides to stop blaming westerners, or even white people, (especially if this is anything to go by) and just accept the fact that the only person who screwed up Zimbabwe is Robert Gabriel Mugabe. A man who seems to be so up himself that he believes that white people are the cause of Zimbabwe's economic woes.

All I wonder is what will happen if he is declared the new President. Will the Zimbabweans rise up in protest in a similar way the people of that African country that I can't think of at the moment did? Or will they have to wait until Mugabe dies, and Zanu-PF probably falls apart?
